Windows Live Essentials enjoyed some popularity since its release on 30Sep2010. The most popular versions were WLE 2011 and WLE 2012, and the most popular program in the package was Windows Live Mail.

Well, things change, and Microsoft announced that Windows Live Essentials was being retired on 10Jan2017.

If you are using Windows Live Essentials, that doesn't mean that it will stop working on that date ... it simply means that support will end for it on that date: so you can't get help from Microsoft for it, and if a bug is discovered, it will not be fixed.

As a replacement for Windows Live Mail (and any other "email client" for that matter), Teky is recommending Mozilla Thunderbird.
